Dental Sedation Options

At The Smile Center, we use technology that minimizes the discomfort of dental procedures to ease your dental anxiety. And we also offer comfort options like warm blankets and cozy pillows to make your visit less stressful. How can Sedation Dentistry Help Overcome Dental Anxiety? | The Smile Center

If you are still nervous, though, you’ll be glad to know our Georgetown SC and Murrells Inlet SC dentist can use dental sedation to take your mind off your dental procedures.

To find out more about our dental sedation options, call The Smile Center in Murrells Inlet or Georgetown.

Two Types of Dental Sedation

We use two types of dental sedation:

  • Light sedation, or “laughing gas”
  • Oral sedatives

These methods offer different levels of sedation, and there are pros and cons to each approach. Our dentist will help you determine which type of dental sedation is right for you.

We’ve provided an overview of each method of dental sedation here.

Light Sedation

Light sedation, often referred to as “laughing gas,” produces a mild euphoria. We administer it through a small mask you wear over your face. Its effects wear off quickly, and you’ll be able to drive yourself home following your procedure.

It is so safe, we can even give it to children. It is also easy for us to increase or reduce the amount of gas you receive.

Because it is the mildest form of sedation, it may not be enough for more severe cases of dental anxiety.

Oral Sedatives

Dr. John Miller is our expert, having completed advanced training with the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. He uses oral sedatives that are considered highly safe. They’ll consider your medical history, among other factors, before giving you an oral sedative.

You will need to arrange for a ride home from your procedure.
